Exclusive Interview: Carrie of 'pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious'
Twenty-five-year-old Carrie Jones’ impressive vocals were not enough to save her from being eliminated on CW’s reality TV talent search Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious. On the show’s eight episode entitled “Star Quality,” the judges decided to send Carrie back to her hometown in Fairfield , Illinois . But before leaving the city, BuddyTV had the chance to interview Carrie and below are the highlights of their discussion.
Carrie related that she started singing in church choirs at the age of three. After that, she took up piano lessons. It was a casting director from L.A. who told her to audition for the show. “I didn't really want to do it, because I was never really a big dancer, like they showed on the show. But I went to audition and I sat there with like 600 girls, I made it to the callbacks, and I didn't go back to the callback. I was like, I can't do this,” she shared. But the producers of the show called her again the next day, around twenty times. So she came back and was surprised to find out that she actually made it this far.
The judges said that Carrie would be better off as a solo artist than with a group, a statement that Carrie actually agreed with. Although she did want to win, she also realized that her style was different from the group, “Especially when I found out that the direction that Girlicious was going was more urban style, and obviously I'm more of a rock and roll type of girl. My voice didn't really fit in with the rest of the girls. It's not kind of cutesy pop, it's more of a powerhouse rocker style.” In the end, Carrie was not bitter but rather “extremely proud and happy with the way things turned out.”
After the show, Carrie intends to pursue a solo career. She also said that Robin actually talked to her after the elimination and told her she wanted to work with Carrie in the future. “So I'm hoping that I will continue to work with Robin, and find the right people around me that kind of do exactly what I want. I want to do my own thing, like Blondie, Joan Jett, and Heart, and stuff like that,” said Carrie.About the Author:
